On crazy hats

British ladies have been well-known for wearing hats on all sorts of traditional events for many years. I’m definitely not British nor do I have any British blood running in my family (as far as I know…), but I still have a strange affection towards this hat-wearing habit. Maybe it’s because Israelis basically have no dress code whatsoever, that this sort of tradition appeals to me, or maybe it’s because of the quirky and crazy hat designs that can be seen on these events. Some of them might puzzle you, others will make you smile, but all of them are bound to get your attention. It’s quite amazing how much work and creativity can be put into a hat!
One such even that is taking place these days is The Royal Ascot, one of the most famous horse-racing venues in Europe and it brought forth these lovely ladies who are not hesitant to rock some eccentric head-wear.

הנשים הבריטיות ידועות בעבור הרגלי חבישת הכובעים שלהם באירועים מסורתיים במשך שנים רבות. אני בהחלט לא בריטית וגם אין לי שורשים בריטים ככל הידוע לי, ולמרות זאת, יש לי חיבה יתרה למסורת הכובעים הזאת. ייתכן שזה בגלל שבישראל לא ממש קיים קוד לבוש רשמי כלשהו, או אולי בגלל העיצובים המוזרים והמשוגעים שניתן לראות באירועים מסוג זה. חלקם יעוררו בכם תמיהה, אחרים יגרמו לכם לחייך, אבל מה שבטוח – לא תוכלו להתעלם מהם. די מדהים בעיניי כמה עבודה ויצירתיות אפשר להשקיע בכובע אחד! אחד האירועים מסוג זה הוא הרויאל אסקוט, אחד ממפגשי המירוצים הידועים ביותר באירופה, המתקיים בימים אלה ממש ומהווה הזדמנות פז לגבירות הבריטיות הענוגות לחבוש את כובעיהם יוצאי הדופן.

On the milder side of head-wear, hats have definitely been present in many fashionistas’ wardrobes in the last couple of years and moving on to this spring/summer season as well. From floppy felt hats to smaller, 80s retro hats, they seem to be regaining their fame. When styled properly, donning a hat can make an outfit super-chic. Unfortunately, I lack the guts to wear one myself (I just feel really strange going to work wearing a hat, you know?), so I just enjoy admiring them from afar. Here are some of my Royal Ascot personal favorites:

בנימה “רגועה” יותר, אפשר לומר שכובעים בהחלט הראו נוכחות במלתחות של פאשניסטות בשנתיים האחרונות והמגמה ממשיכה גם לתוך עונת האביב/קיץ הנוכחית. החל מכובעים רחבי שוליים ועד כובעים קטנים בסגנון שנות השמונים, נראה שהם חוזרים לימי הזוהר שלהם. הוספת כובע למראה מסוגנן היטב עשויה בהחלט להוסיף למדד השיק. לצערי, אין לי את האומץ לעטות אחד על עצמי (אני פשוט לא רואה את עצמי יושבת במשרד עם כובע על הראש), ולכן אני מסתפקת בלהעריץ אותם מרחוק. הנה כמה מהכובעים האהובים עליי מהרויאל אסקוט:
